Sofia Margarita Vergara (Spanish:, born July 10, 1972) is a Colombian-American actress as well as a television producer, presenter and model. Vergara was the highest-paid actor on American television between 2013 between 2013 and 2020. Vergara rose in prominence when she hosted two shows on Univision's Spanish-language TV network in the mid-90s. Chasing Papi (2003) was her first major acting role in English. The following year, she was in Four Brothers (2005), Tyler Perry's comedies Meet the Browns (2008) and Madea Goes to Jail (2009 which earned an ALMA Award nomination). In 2009, she started as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the ABC comedy series Modern Family for which she was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, and eleven Screen Actors Guild Awards.Vergara was also featured in the films The Smurfs (2011), New Year's Eve (2011), The Three Stooges (2012), Machete Kills (2013), Fading Gigolo (2013) Chef (2014) and Hot Pursuit (2015). Also, she voiced roles in the animated films Happy Feet Two (2011), Escape from Planet Earth (2013), and The Emoji Movie (2017). Vergara was also the highest-paid Hollywood actress in 2020 [citation needed]. Vergara has been America's Got Talent judge since 2020. Vergara was born in Barranquilla by an Roman Catholic couple. Her mother Margarita Vergara was a homemaker and her father Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo was a cattle rancher. By her five siblings, and many cousins, she was called "Toti". Vergara was a first-year student at National University of Colombia in dentistry. After that, she left for two semesters to pursue modeling opportunities and show business.
